The goal in occupational therapy is to assist in restoring function and creating a balance in self care, productivity, and leisure. For many individuals, pain, fatigue, cognitive and emotional changes and other chronic symptoms are limiting quality of life and choices of activities in a day.
In occupational therapy, there is a focus on learning techniques that increase independence in daily living. Concepts include balance of daily activities, exercise, pacing of tasks, time management, activity modification, and applying good ergonomics in your environment. Activities addressed can include personal care routines, home management tasks, child care activity, driving, shopping, school, work, and leisure activities.
