Amanda Abbott


Professional Summary

Amanda has worked in private practice as an occupational therapist for more than six years. 

Amanda is passionate about working with clients to facilitate recovery from concussions, and psychological and physical injuries. She approaches her work with empathy and compassion, with the goal of providing collaborative client-centered care.  Amanda calls upon evidenced-based research and her experience with cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness when working with clients with mental health challenges. She also has experience providing occulo-motor assessment/treatment and symptom management for concussions.

She has specialized training with concussion management and occulo-motor function assessment and treatment, driving anxiety, exposure therapy, and anxiety and depression management. Additionally, Amanda has experience conducting Medical Functional Assessments of Driving for 4.5 years.  She has attended additional training courses on the assessment of an individual’s fitness to dive.

After completing a Bachelor’s degree Honors Specialization in Kinesiology 2009, Amanda worked as a Kinesiologist in private practice for one year. She returned to school to study occupational therapy and graduated from the University of Toronto with a Masters of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2012. Amanda has been working in the realm of private practice since completing her Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2012. She works with clients injured at home, work, or in motor-vehicle accidents.

Amanda is a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) and holds a membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Her graduate research project, completed in conjunction with University of Toronto and Baycrest, was published in 2015 in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy. In her free time Amanda enjoys the green-space in downtown Ottawa. Some of her favourite things to do include running along the Rideau Canal or exploring one of the many Ottawa Farmer’s Markets
