Amanda Abbott
Professional Summary
Amanda has worked in private practice as an occupational therapist for more than 10 years. She approaches her work with empathy and compassion, with the goal of providing collaborative client-centered care. Amanda calls upon evidenced-based research and her experience with cognitive behavioural therapy and mindfulness when working with clients with mental health challenges.
She has specialized training for providing intervention in the following areas: concussion management, exposure therapy (including driving anxiety), ergonomic workstation evaluation, and behavioural activation for mental health. Amanda is also skilled in provision of Medical Legal Assessments, Functional Capacity Evaluations (physical and cognitive based), return to work assessments, and medical driving assessments.
After completing a Bachelor’s degree Honors Specialization in Kinesiology in 2009, Amanda worked as a Kinesiologist in a private practice for one year. She returned to school to study occupational therapy and graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master’s of Science in Occupational Therapy in 2012. Since then, Amanda has been working in the realm of private practice, treating clients injured at home, work, or in motor-vehicle accidents.
Amanda is a member in good standing with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO) and holds a membership with the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT). Her graduate research project, completed in conjunction with University of Toronto and Baycrest Hospital, was published in 2015 in the American Journal of Occupational Therapy.
