Post-Trauma Rehabilitation
A collaborative team approach
Our occupational therapists and case managers have developed a broad network around the region, working closely with other professionals in order to address physical, cognitive, and emotional needs in recovery from complex, traumatic injuries.
The occupational therapist is involved early in the process following a trauma, often from the time of hospital discharge. As the individual progresses, the occupational therapist remains involved to assist with functional self-care goals, and to help clients fully engage with their family, social, community, and workplace environments.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
Our team is also experienced and trained in the management of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The symptoms of PTSD can cause significant levels of distress and disruption to an individual’s ability to function in their everyday lives. Occupational therapy assists in addressing barriers to participation through awareness of triggers and their warning signs. We also assist in developing positive coping, health, and wellness strategies, such as stress management, relaxation techniques, and activity planning and pacing for involvement in meaningful, purposeful activity.
