Mindfulness to Promote Recovery
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we have not been able to run this program, which typically operates in person, in a quiet, group envrionment. Please refer back for more updates, as we would like to resume the program offering in 2022.
There are times when life events seem overwhelming, preventing us from fully engaging in our meaningful activities and relationships. Our intense emotions can affect not only our work performance, but also our family life. Scientific research is now proving the healing effect of mindfulness in developing attention and rebalancing our emotions.
“Mindfulness means paying attention in a particular way: on purpose, in the present moment, and non-judgmentally.” – Jon Kabat-Zinn
Mindfulness is paying attention to what we are doing while we are doing it, bringing our full awareness to this present moment. It means meeting each moment with an attitude of openness and curiosity, rather than with fear or judgement. Developing skillful attention allows us to interrupt unproductive thoughts and to be aware of our options for responding at any given moment.
This 8-part series will focus on the skill of mindfulness in everyday living, as a strategy to improve our attention and emotion management. Each session will include mindfulness meditation practice, discussion, and reflection, as well as tools to facilitate continued practice and growth at home, all in the context of participants’ occupational goals. Each session will follow Adult Learning Design principles
Topics will include:
- Introduction to Mindfulness
- The Neuro-anatomy of Mindfulness
