Professional Summary

Janine obtained her Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Neuroscience and Mental Health from Carleton University in Ottawa, followed by a graduate certificate in Brain Disorders Management from Mohawk College. She completed her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy at Queen’s University in Kingston. Her educational background has provided her with a deep understanding of neurological disorders and their effects on everyday life, enhancing her expertise in clinical practice.

With clinical experience in hospitals, private practice, and community settings, Janine has worked with diverse populations, including individuals with developmental disabilities, brain injuries, psychiatric disorders, and neurological disorders. At Modern OT, she supports clients facing challenges in their daily routines and meaningful activities due to physical and mental health conditions. Her work includes providing assessment and intervention to individuals recovering from motor vehicle accidents, military personnel and veterans, those returning to work after long-term disability, and seniors aiming to age in place. Janine’s areas of interest include mental health, brain injury rehabilitation, and home modifications.

Before becoming an occupational therapist, Janine worked as a transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) technician and a community support worker in Toronto. As a TMS technician, she administered rTMS to treat clients with psychiatric disorders. In her role as a community support worker, she assisted clients with daily living activities and collaborated with clinical teams to develop and update care plans. These roles not only deepened Janine’s understanding of the complexities of mental health and rehabilitation but also ignited her passion for occupational therapy, where she can combine her clinical skills with a holistic approach to empower individuals to overcome challenges and achieve greater independence in their daily lives.

As a lifelong learner, Janine is committed to professional development through ongoing education, training, and research to expand her knowledge and skillset throughout her occupational therapy career. Her mental health training includes administering repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS), applied suicide intervention skills training (ASIST), and the Gentle Persuasive Approach (GPA) course for healthcare professionals working with clients with dementia. Janine is passionate about promoting autonomy, independence, and engagement in meaningful activities to help clients achieve their goals.

In her spare time, Janine enjoys travelling, hiking, spending time with friends and family, and attending concerts.
