Telehealth Speech Therapy During COVID-19

Saturday, March 14, 2020

Communication issues occur in Modern OT’s client population 75% to 80% of the time and, unfortunately, are often missed. Communication difficulties persist amidst the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, and Modern OT’s speech-language pathologist (SLP), Lisa Abbott Moore, can help.

Lisa is trained in providing SLP treatment via virtual Telehealth sessions. She often offers Telepractice in combination with in-person treatment to maintain consistency and be mindful of treatment costs. Being able to provide Telehealth treatment additionally allows Lisa to accept more clients who are in need of SLP services.

In terms of assessments, SLPs are easily able to conduct evaluations via Telehealth. Lisa is currently moving forward with SLP assessments and treatment sessions via Telepractice as she feels strongly that getting clients started with treatment and meeting their needs in a timely fashion is important. Lisa is also able to conduct urgent screenings for clients with swallowing issues to ensure their safety in the interim while awaiting a physical examination.

Throughout the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic, Lisa will remain in contact with SLPs in the area, the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO), as well as the Ontario Association of Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists (OSLA) to maintain current best practices throughout the changing climate.

Thank you for continuing to consider speech and language services through Modern OT!
