Alexander Ferriman
Professional Summary
Alex’s journey began in Toronto, Ontario, where a traumatic sports injury during his teenage years resulted in a severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) and permanent disability. Despite the obstacles, his determination and love for sports helped him overcome the challenges of relearning to walk and talk at Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital. This experience ignited his passion for helping others and motivated him to make a difference in the lives of people facing similar challenges.
After a brief career in broadcasting and film, Alex and his wife relocated to Kingston, Ontario, in 2019. Here he pursued his passion for helping others by enrolling in the Occupational Therapist Assistant and Physiotherapist Assistant program at Loyalist College in Belleville. Before coming to ModernOT worked as a physiotherapy assistant and group fitness instructor at a long-term care home. Due to his own nerve damage on his left side, he is a firm believer in the compensatory approach of Occupational Therapy for activities of daily life, and he is incredibly passionate and determined to improve the quality of life of everyone he works with.
Throughout his professional career and volunteer work, Alex has gained experience working with geriatrics, palliative care, mental health, developmental disabilities, neurodivergent, stroke, and brain injury populations.
In his spare time, Alex enjoys the outdoors, staying active, capturing and editing photos, and cherishing moments with his wife, son, and dog. Alex’s commitment to enhancing the lives of others is reflected in every aspect of his work and personal life.
