Sara Doesburg
Professional Summary
Sara earned her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy and her Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology, both from Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Her educational background and practical experience have provided her with a comprehensive understanding of the various factors influencing health and well-being, including occupational, physical, environmental, social, and cultural. This has equipped her to adopt a holistic and individualized approach to clinical practice.
Sara works with a variety of clients at Modern OT, supporting a diverse range of clients in regaining function and enhancing their engagement in meaningful and necessary daily activities. Her practice includes working with individuals recovering from motor vehicle accidents, clients returning to work after long-term disability, military personnel, veterans, and older adults facing health or aging-related challenges. Sara employs a variety of therapeutic approaches tailored to her client’s unique needs, including home modifications, assistive devices, chronic pain management, strategies for routine and pacing, and incorporating meaningful activities. Sara has previous clinical experience across community, school, and hospital settings, where she has provided assessment and intervention for youth, adults, and older adults with conditions such as neurological conditions, orthopedic injuries, severe mental illness, dementia, developmental disabilities, and autism. Sara remains committed to creating trusting partnerships with her clients and keeping their goals and perspectives at the forefront of treatment. She is passionate about supporting individuals throughout the aging process and employing approaches to facilitate aging in place.
Sara continuously expands her knowledge and skillsets through workshops, continuing education courses, and peer-reviewed literature, ensuring she implements the best evidence in her practice. She has training in chronic pain management, motivational interviewing, wheelchair measurement, seating and positioning, pressure injury prevention and management, and cognitive assessment. Sara is certified in Standard First Aid and CPR/AED and has completed Nonviolent Crisis Intervention training.
Outside of her professional life, Sara enjoys gardening, baking, playing the piano, reading, and spending quality time with her two cats.
